Weekly Construction Update - Friday, May 15, 2026

Crews will be off-site starting Friday, May 22, at noon in observance of Memorial Day. Crews will return to site on Monday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

Nightly, starting the evening of Sunday, May 17, through the morning of Friday, May 22, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • Lane closures along one side of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, with two-way traffic shifted to the opposite side of the roadway.
  • Monday, May 18, and Tuesday, May 19, South Park Drive reduced to a single lane. Access will be maintained but limited.
  • Thursday, May 21, the Interstate 89 (I-89) southbound off-ramp at Exit 16 will be fully closed starting at 7 p.m. and will reopen by 6 a.m. on Friday, May 22. I-89 southbound traffic will be detoured to exit the interstate at Exit 17 to U.S. 2 east, to U.S. 2/7 south.

Daily, starting the morning of Monday, May 18, through noon on Friday, May 22, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • Lane closures along U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive, with two-way traffic maintained.
  • Monday, May 18, and Tuesday, May 19, Highgate Center reduced to a single lane. Access will be maintained but limited.
  • Intermittent lane closures along either side of U.S. 2/7 near Hercules Drive, with the work zone moving north along U.S. 2/7.

Please be advised that portions of U.S. 2/7 will be reduced to a gravel surface starting Sunday night through Saturday morning. Motorists should slow down, use caution, and follow traffic control personnel's instructions and signage. In addition, motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan additional travel time or consider alternative routes.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Nighttime work this week will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., starting the evening of Sunday, May 17, through the morning of Friday, May 22. Crews will continue to remove asphalt and boxcut along U.S. 2/7 continuing north. On Monday and Tuesday night, crews will install conduit sleeves at the intersection of U.S. 2/7 at South Park Drive. On Thursday night, crews will remove asphalt and boxcut the I-89 southbound off-ramp. There is the potential for crews to begin paving temporary asphalt along the gravel section of U.S. 2/7 and the I-89 southbound off-ramp on Thursday night.

Daytime work will take place between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., starting the morning of Monday, May 18, through noon on Friday, May 22. Crews will work to maintain gravel surfaces along U.S. 2/7 throughout the week. Additionally, crews will continue to install the cable connections between the new traffic signal intersections (interconnect) from Hercules Drive headed north. On Friday, crews will finish temporarily paving the gravel section and install temporary line markings.

City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project

  • Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
  • Next week: Crews will install traffic signal infrastructure at the Winooski Fire Department and Spring Street intersection and sidewalk and permeable pavers on both sides of Main Street between Lafountain Street and Tigan Street. Streetlight wiring installation will wrap up between Bellevue and Tigan Street early next week.
  • Traffic Impacts:
  • 24/7 | Main Street southbound lane reduction at Tigan Street intersection
    Monday – Wednesday, 7 AM to 7 PM | 10-minute traffic stoppages on Main Street near Winooski Fire Department.
  • Thursday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | 10-minute traffic stoppages at Main Street and Spring Street intersection. Lane reductions and traffic shifts on East and West Spring Street.
  • Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | On-street parking restrictions, lane closures, and traffic shifts along Main Street between Spring Street and Tigan Street, with potential for alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Traffic control will be present.
