TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION:

Daily, starting the morning of Monday, July 20, through the afternoon of Friday, July 24, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • Outermost lane closures on either side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Hercules Drive, with two-way traffic maintained.
  • Intermittent lane closures at the intersection of U.S. 2/7 and Hercules Drive, with traffic maintained in all directions. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the intersection as needed.

Motorists should slow down, use caution, and follow traffic control personnel's instructions and signage. In addition, motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan additional travel time or consider alternative routes.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Daytime work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., starting the morning of Monday, July 20, through the afternoon of Friday, July 24. Crews will install curb along both sides of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive. Crews will conduct roadway widening along either side of U.S. 2/7 between Mountain View Drive and Hercules Drive and install traffic signal conduit along the west side (southbound). East Coast Signals will be onsite installing conduit and lighting, and conducting preparatory work for future traffic signal work at the intersection of U.S. 2/7 and Hercules Drive.

Crews have widened and paved the east side (northbound) of U.S. 2/7 and are working on widening the west side (southbound) between South Park Drive and the I-89 South Ramps in preparation for the construction of the new Diverging Diamond Interchange.

VTrans Colchester Exit 17 Project

  • Project Area: I-89 Exit 17, U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road, U.S. 2 between Chimney Corner and Jasper Mine Road
  • Next week: Crews will complete the wiring for the wrong-way detection signage on the I-89 North off-ramp and test the wrong-way detection signage on both the I-89 North and South off-ramps.
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • Monday, 3 PM – 8 PM | Shoulder closure and lane width reductions with traffic shifts on the I-89 Exit 17 North off-ramp. Traffic will be maintained.
    • Monday 8 PM – Tuesday 12 AM | Full closures of the I-89 Exit 17 North and South off-ramps.
      • I-89 northbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 18 in Georgia and directed south on U.S. 7.
      • I-89 southbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 16 and directed north on U.S. 7.

City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project

  • Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
  • Next week: Crews are scheduled to finish forming and pouring new sidewalk at the Tigan and Main Street intersection, and on the west side of Main Street north of Tigan Street throughout the week, weather permitting. A subcontractor is scheduled to be on-site to complete pavement marking installation handwork on Main Street between Stevens Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line throughout the week, weather permitting. Traffic signal work, including the installation of mast arm poles, will take place at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection and Winooski Fire Department. Permanent signage installation will start mid-week. In addition, crews will install permeable pavers, plant trees, place topsoil, seed, and mulch and conduct site restoration on Main Street between Stevens Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line. Green Mountain Power will also be on-site conducting independent utility work on Main Street near the Winooski School District.
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Lane closure on Main Street between Stevens Street and Tigan Street, allowing northbound traffic only, for pavement marking installation. Traffic shifts and on-street parking restrictions will be in effect along this segment. Main Street southbound traffic north of Tigan Street will be detoured via Tigan Street, Weaver Street, and West Spring Street. Intermittent closures of West Spring Street, Stevens Street, Lafountain Street, Burling Street, Bellevue Street, and Normand Street at their intersections with Main Street. The lane closure and southbound detour route and side street closures will be lifted by 7 PM each day.
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Lane reduction on Main Street between Normand Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line, with alternating one-way traffic. This traffic pattern will not be in effect at the same time as the Main Street northbound only and southbound detour route traffic pattern outlined above.
    • Tuesday – Thursday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Lane reduction on Tigan Street at its Main Street intersection, allowing westbound traffic only, with eastbound traffic detoured via Main Street, West Spring Street, and Weaver Street. This traffic pattern will not be in effect at the same time as the Main Street northbound only and southbound detour route traffic pattern outlined above.
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Intermittent, 10-minute traffic holds at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection and on Main Street at the Winooski Fire Department to install the traffic signal poles.
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Possible lane reductions or flagging operations on Main Street near the Winooski School District for Green Mountain Power’s independent utility work.
