City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project
- Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
- Next week: A subcontractor is scheduled to finish permanent pavement marking installation and install permanent center line striping on Main Street between Maple Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line early next week, weather permitting. Traffic signal work, including the installation of mast arm poles, will take place at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection and Winooski Fire Department. Permanent signage installation will continue throughout the week. In addition, crews will install permeable pavers and plant trees on the east side of Main Street, starting at Bellevue Street and working north along the corridor.
- Traffic Impacts:
- Today – Wednesday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Traffic patterns at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection will shift during permanent pavement marking installation. West Spring Street will be temporarily closed and reopened at Main Street, followed by lane reductions and shifts on Main Street. East Spring Street will then be temporarily closed and reopened at Main Street. Flaggers will direct traffic. This weather-dependent work may continue into early next week. Centerline striping will also be installed on Main Street from south of Maple Street to the Winooski/Colchester town line, weather permitting. Short mobile work zones with shoulder closures, lane shifts, and flagging operations will move north along Main Street as striping progresses. If needed, after striping passes the Spring Street intersection, Main Street between Spring Street and Tigan Street will be reduced to one northbound lane. On-street parking restrictions and lane shifts will be in effect, and southbound traffic will be detoured via Tigan Street and Weaver Street. The lane closure and detour will be removed at the end of each workday, and signage will guide drivers. Main Street between Tigan Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line will have alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers during pavement marking installation. This traffic pattern will not occur at the same time as the northbound-only traffic pattern and southbound detour between Spring Street and Tigan Street.
- Monday – Wednesday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Lane closures and shifts on East and West Spring Street, with traffic maintained. Intermittent, 10-minute traffic holds at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection to install the traffic signal poles are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, subject to change.
- Wednesday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Lane reduction on Main Street near the Winooski Fire Department. Intermittent, 10-minute traffic holds on Main Street at the Winooski Fire Department to install the traffic signal poles are tentatively scheduled for Friday, subject to change.
- Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM | Possible shoulder closure on the east side of Main Street between Bellevue Street and Tigan Street.
