Weekly Construction Update - Friday, March 20, 2026
DATE: Friday, March 20, 2026
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: From Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27, between 6 AM and 3 PM, lane closures and lane shifts will be in place at the following locations:
- on the west side of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) from the Highpoint Center intersection north to the Park & Ride intersection, and,
- on the east side of U.S. 2/7 from the Winooski town line near Checkerbay Carwash north to the Interstate 89 (I-89) Exit 16 southbound on-ramp.
Barriers are in place along the I‑89 Exit 16 northbound off‑ramp and on U.S. 2/7 in front of The Lighthouse Restaurant, and the roadway shoulder in this area is closed.
Independent utility companies will periodically conduct work along U.S. 2/7 between the Winooski town line and Sunderland Woods Road, under lane closures.
Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan ahead, consider alternative routes, or use other forms of transportation (carpooling, ridesharing, transit, biking, or walking). Drivers should slow down, use caution, and follow flaggers and signage.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Next week, crews will install streetlight pole bases, remove curb, and continue preparing for upcoming roadway excavation (box cut). The contractor will also investigate and remove ledge as needed. Mast‑arm foundation work will take place at the U.S. 2/7 intersections with Highpoint Center and Mountain View Drive. Curb removal will occur between Highpoint Center and the I‑89 Exit 16 southbound off‑ramp and near the Park & Ride. Crews will also explore for ledge near Whitcomb Street and between the Winooski town line and the I‑89 Exit 16 southbound on‑ramp. Light‑pole base installation will take place on both sides of U.S. 2/7 in these areas. Work will also continue behind barriers along the I‑89 Exit 16 northbound off‑ramp near the Lighthouse Restaurant to build the roadway subbase.
Independent utility work will continue periodically along U.S. 2/7 between the Winooski town line and Sunderland Woods Road.

Crews install a stormwater grass channel on the south side of Upper Mountain View Drive near its intersection with U.S. 2/7 in Colchester, VT.
