Weekly Construction Update - Friday, April 3, 2026
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: From Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10, between 6 AM and 3 PM, the following traffic impacts will be in effect:
- single lane closure along the west side of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) from Whitcomb Street to Mountain View Drive,
- intermittent single lane closure along the east side of U.S. 2/7 from South Park Drive and the Interstate 89 (I-89) southbound on-ramp,
- intermittent lane width reductions and potential intermittent lane closures along the I-89 northbound off-ramp and the I-89 southbound off-ramp,
- an instance of a single lane closure with traffic shifts on Mountain View Drive near the interstate.
Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan ahead, consider alternative routes, or use other forms of transportation (carpooling, ridesharing, transit, biking, or walking). Drivers should slow down, use caution, and follow flaggers and signage.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Next week, crews will continue working along the west side of U.S. 2/7 between Whitcomb Street and Mountain View Drive installing light pole bases, widening the roadway and constructing the slip lanes for the I-89 southbound off-ramp and the I-89 northbound on-ramp. Crews will be installing overhead sign foundations and light pole bases along U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and the I-89 southbound on-ramp, the I-89 southbound off-ramp and I-89 northbound off-ramp, and Mountain View Drive near the interstate.

VTrans Colchester Exit 17 Project
- Project Area: I-89 Exit 17, U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road, U.S. 2 between Chimney Corner and Jasper Mine Road
- Next week: Crews will install construction signage, permanent roadway signage, luminaires, and traffic signal equipment during the day. On Thursday at night, crews will install overhead signage over the I-89 NB off-ramp.
- Traffic Impacts: Wednesday – Friday, 6 AM – 7 PM | Lane reductions or shifts with the potential for short stoppages along U.S. 7.
- Thursday, 8 PM – 10 PM | I-89 NB off-ramp closed. Detour at Exit 16 or 18.

City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project
- Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
- Next week: Starting mid-to-late week, crews will return to the site to prep materials, stage equipment, and install construction signage.
- Traffic Impacts: Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Work will take place predominately off the roadway with limited impact to traffic.
