Weekly Construction Update - Friday, May 1, 2026
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: Starting the evening of Sunday, May 3, through the morning of Friday, May 8, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.:
- Lane closures along the west side of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive with two-way traffic shifted to the east
- Lane closures along Lower Mountain View Drive with intermittent traffic shifts or flagged one-way alternating traffic
Intermittent traffic impacts starting the morning of Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.:
- Lane closures along the west side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive with two-way traffic shifted to the east
- Lane closures or width reductions along the Interstate 89 (I-89) Southbound Off-Ramp
Please be advised that portions of U.S. 2/7 will be reduced to a gravel surface starting Sunday night through Friday afternoon. Motorists should slow down, use caution, and follow traffic control personnel instructions and signage. In addition, motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan ahead and consider alternative routes.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Nighttime work this week will take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., starting the evening of Sunday, May 3, through the morning of Friday, May 8. On Sunday and Monday nights, crews will remove the asphalt from the west side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive in preparation for boxcutting starting Tuesday evening and continuing throughout the week. The west side of U.S. 2/7 will have uneven, gravel conditions throughout the week until Friday afternoon. In addition, crews will work to widen Lower Mountain View Drive. Daytime work this week will take place between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., starting the morning of Monday, May 4, through the afternoon of Friday, May 8. Crews will work to maintain gravel surfaces along the west side of U.S. 2/7 throughout the week. There is the potential for crews to continue foundation work along the I-89 southbound off ramp. On Friday, crews will temporarily pave the gravel section of U.S. 2/7 and install temporary line striping.

- Project Area: I-89 Exit 17, U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road, U.S. 2 between Chimney Corner and Jasper Mine Road
- Next week: Crews will install wrong-way detection on the I-89 Exit 17 Interchange off-ramps and pavement markings along U.S. 2 and U.S. 7 within the project limits, weather permitting.

City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project
- Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
- Next week: Crews will reconstruct the Main Street and Tigan Street intersection, install sidewalks and streetlights along either side of Main Street between Lafountain Street and Tigan Street, and conduct signal work at the Main Street and Spring Street intersection.
- Traffic Impacts:
- Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM | Lane closure on Main Street at Tigan Street with flaggers controlling traffic at the intersection. On Monday and Tuesday, Tigan Street will be closed at Main Street, with traffic detoured to West Spring Street and Weaver Street. From Wednesday through Friday, there is potential for lane closures and/or traffic pattern changes on Normand Street. Traffic delays are expected.
- Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | On-street parking restrictions, lane closures, and traffic shifts along Main Street between Spring Street and Tigan Street, including on Spring Street.
