Weekly Construction Update - Friday, August 7, 2026

TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: Nightly, starting the evening of Sunday, August 9, through the morning of Tuesday, August 11, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., unless otherwise noted:

  • Single lane closures will be in effect along Mountain View Drive and Lower Mountain View Drive near their intersection with U.S. 2/7. Two-way traffic will be maintained through traffic shifts and alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.

Daily, starting the morning of Monday, August 10, through the afternoon of Friday, August 14, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:

  • Outermost lane closures on either side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
  • Single lane closure on alternating sides of U.S. 2/7 between Hercules Drive and Rather Road. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
  • Intermittent single lane closures at the signalized intersections of U.S. 2/7 at Tigan Street, South Park Drive, the Exit 16 Interchange, Mountain View Drive, Hercules Drive, and Rathe Road. Two-way traffic will be maintained through traffic shifts and alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.

Motorists should slow down, use caution, and follow traffic control personnel's instructions and signage. In addition, motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan additional travel time or consider alternative routes.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Nighttime work this week will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., starting the evening of Sunday, August 9, through the morning of Tuesday, August 11. Crews will be milling and paving Mountain View Drive and Lower Mountain View Drive near the intersection with U.S. 2/7 and within the project limits.

Daytime work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., starting the morning of Monday, August 10, through the afternoon of Friday, August 14. Crews will continue prepping and pouring sidewalk and installing curb along both sides of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive. Crews will conduct repairs on the Interstate 89 overpass bridges. Crews will continue widening U.S. 2/7 between Hercules Drive and Rathe Road. Crews will be working to upgrade traffic signals at the intersections of U.S. 2/7 at Tigan Street, South Park Drive, the Exit 16 Interchange, Mountain View Drive, Hercules Drive, and Rathe Road intermittently throughout the week.

Work conduct side slope work along U.S. 2/7 between Mountain View Drive and Hercules Drive.

VTrans Colchester Exit 17 Project

  • Project Area: I-89 Exit 17, U.S. 7 between the Shell Gas Station and Wiley Road, U.S. 2 between Chimney Corner and Jasper Mine Road

City of Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project

  • Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
  • Next week: Work will continue installing pavement markings, sidewalk repairs in spot locations, and curb work along Main Street throughout the project area. Installation of pavers along the west side of Main Street starting at Bellevue Street working north will take place. Signal wiring work will take place in preparation for traffic signal infrastructure installation the week of August 17 at Main Street and Spring Street and the Fire Department.  
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 7PM | There is the potential for Main Street between Spring Street and Tigan Street to be reduced to a single-lane, allow northbound traffic only. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Tigan Street and Weaver Street.
    • Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Short mobile work zones with shoulder closures, lane shifts, and flagging along Main Street throughout the project limts.
    • Monday – Wednesday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Single lane closures along Main Street between Tigan Street and the Winooski/Colchester town line. Not concurrent with the northbound only traffic pattern.
    • Monday – Wednesday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Short temporary side road closures at intersecting side streets along Main Street between Maple Street and Tigan Street.
    • Monday – Wednesday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Lane reductions and shifts on East and West Spring Street for traffic signal work.
