Weekly Construction Update - Friday, September 25, 2026
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Traffic was transitioned to the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at the Interstate 89 (I-89) Exit 16 interchange in Colchester on Thursday, September 17. The new traffic pattern is now permanently in effect on U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7).
Motorists should remain alert and use caution while traveling through the area. Please slow down, follow roadway markings and signage, obey traffic signals, and watch for traffic control personnel as construction activities continue and drivers acclimate to the new interchange configuration. TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: Daily, starting the morning of Monday, September 28, through the afternoon on Friday, October 2, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
- Lane closures along either side of U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained. The traffic signals within the interchange will continue to be operational and control crossover traffic.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Daytime work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., starting the morning of Monday, September 28, through the afternoon on Friday, October 2. Throughout the week, crews will work to install the center islands along U.S. 2/7 and the splitter islands on the interstate ramps within the Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange under lane closures. Additional repair work will continue on the I-89 overpass bridge piers between the I-89 North and South ramps. This work will take place off the roadway.
Traffic shifted to the Diverging Diamond Interchange traffic pattern in the early morning on Thursday, September 17 on U.S. 2/7 at Exit 16.

- Project Area: Main Street in Winooski, between the railroad bridge near Maple Street and the Colchester town line near Checkerbay Carwash
- Next week: Over the next several weeks, crews will intermittently complete punch list work throughout the project limits.

- Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM | Main Street within the project limits may have intermittent shoulder closures and on-street parking restrictions, with most of the work conducted off the roadway.
